Where to head for the heat in January?

Where to head for the heat in January? When your teeth are chattering in the January chill of the UK winter, it’s hardly believable that anywhere on the planet is hot at this time of year. But luckily, there are a number of toasty destinations around the world that allow you to leave the great British winter far behind.

January is a great month for a holiday: the festive season is over, the dark nights at home are worth getting away from, and it’s going to be months before the UK thaws out – so why not give yourself some sunshine and warmth to look forward to?

Whether you’re dreaming of a beach holiday, a culture-heavy city break, or simply the chance to remove your duffel coat for the first time in months, we’ve got you covered. Stick that out-of-office on and fly off to laze on a Jamaican beach, snorkel in the crystalline waters of the Maldives, or party in Miami.

To help you choose, here’s the Citybond Suretravel team's guide to where you can find some much-deserved heat in January.
Singapore

Singapore

An ultra-chic city break destination, Singapore enjoys consistent temperatures all year round thanks to its location, just one degree north of the equator. January is Singapore’s coolest month, yet it still enjoys highs of 31C, while lows sit at a balmy 24C. There’s a little rainfall though - Singapore has a tropical climate - so don’t forget to pack your brolly for wet afternoons. It’s a great city for families to visit, with attractions including nocturnal safaris at the night zoo, Universal Studios Singapore, and Jurong Bird Park. As long as you meet the standard requirements, British passport holders don’t need a visa to holiday there.
Miami, US

Miami, US

If you’ve long harboured a dream of visiting the bright lights of Miami, January is a great time to shake off the winter views with a trip to the Magic City. At this time of year, you can expect highs of 23C, and comfortable lows of 17C. This famous city is perfect for a party with friends. Neon-lit clubs and boisterous bars line the Art Deco Ocean Drive, while Lincoln Road is a stylish promenade boasting a wide selection of restaurants. Visit the historic district for a dose of culture and take a dip in the roaring 20s-era Venetian Pool. And don’t forget to truly get into the Miami vibe by hiring some roller skates and zooming along the waterfront!
Maldives

Maldives

Want to escape the chilly British weather and got a serious budget to blow? Then treat yourself to a destination that tops everyone’s bucket list. The Maldives boasts average daytime temperatures of around 27C in January, with highs climbing to 29C. And somehow this is the South Asian country’s coldest month! The Maldives is not a budget or backpacker-friendly destination - this is true resort-based luxury. Its beaches are widely-known as some of the best in the world: the country’s 1,200 islands are almost all ringed with perfect white sands. And the crystalline aquamarine waters of the Maldives make for one of the world’s best snorkelling destinations: think bright tropical fish and dazzling coral.
Abu Dhabi, UAE

Abu Dhabi, UAE

Dubai may have long been the favoured emirate among travellers, but Abu Dhabi is now gaining a reputation as a modern, cultural hub perfect for cosmopolitan travellers. In January, the mercury regularly climbs to 24C: an ideal heat for exploring the city’s jaw-dropping Islamic architecture and visiting its theme parks. Motorsport fans are in their element in Abu Dhabi, which is home to Ferrari World, a motorsport-themed entertainment complex, as well as Yas Island’s racing circuit. The not-to-be-missed cultural landmark here is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center, which boasts an incredible 82 white domes. Prefer to sunbathe by the pool? You won’t struggle to find upscale resorts in this wealthy destination.
Jamaica

Jamaica

Head to Jamaica in January and you’ll find yourself relaxing in sizzling highs of 28C. And island life – complete with white sandy beaches, swaying palms, and rum-based cocktails – is surely the perfect antidote to the UK’s icy winter. But Jamaica isn’t all about lazing on the beach (unless you want it to be) - this sun-drenched island nation is brimming with cultural attractions. From the Bob Marley Museum to the Rose Hall Great House, a famously haunted mansion, you won’t be short of things to do. Embrace your surroundings with a trip to the stunning Dunn’s River Falls, or visit Rick’s Cafe - an iconic cliffside bar where you can scuba, snorkel, or just chill with a cocktail and listen to reggae.
Wherever you plan on heading to over the coming months it’s good to know Citybond Suretravel is committed to providing you with the highest level of protection to ensure you are safe and secure 24 hours a day when away.
