Where to head for the heat in February

Where to head for the heat in February Blue Monday might belong to January, but with its grey skies and already discarded New Year’s Resolutions, February in Britain is another bleak month of the year! Of course, there is a way to avoid a chilly, grey February: by leaving the UK behind in search of some much-needed sunshine. Stepping off the plane and feeling the warm air and sun on your face is just the tonic you need to shake off the long, cold winter months and prepare yourself for spring.

With most of Europe still experiences temperatures under 20C, finding sun in February means you have to fly a little further – but we promise it’s worth it. It’s a nice excuse to chill out with a dreamy Caribbean break on a Bahamian beach. Alternatively, stick to a lower budget by bagging some cheap flights to Cambodia, where the mercury is high but prices are low. In the Middle Eastern nation of Qatar, you’re almost guaranteed sizzling weather, while Tanzania is ready and waiting to give you the best safari experience of your life.

Let the Citybond Suretravel team guide you through the sunniest destinations in which to shake off the winter blues this February.

As a desert nation, Qatar is hot the whole year round: visit in July and you’ll find yourself baking in 41C heat. For those with Qatar on their bucket list, February is a much more comfortable time to visit, with temperatures during this month averaging at 24.5C. This is the perfect climate for sightseeing in the capital of Doha or enjoying the golden beaches without overheating. With numerous cultural attractions like the bustling Souq Waqif market and the Museum of Islamic Art, Doha is a popular destination among travellers looking to live the high life. Looking for something a little more rural? Try Zekreet. This village - around 50 miles from Doha - is home to deserts, sculptures, and beaches. Plus, it’s the perfect place for a camel ride. Meanwhile, Fuwayrit is a beachy destination complete with watersport opportunities and lots of adorable turtles.

February might be one of the coolest months for the Bahamas, but it’s still warm enough to make it onto our hot list. While the temperature doesn’t tend to exceed 32C in February, most afternoons boast beach-worthy weather, with the mercury rising to 24C. Even at night, temperatures rarely dip below a comfortable 16C. This dreamy destination is an archipelago incorporating over 700 islands and cays, meaning there’s endless choice when it comes to accommodation. Top attractions include the super-Instagrammable Pig Beach, where you’ll see the rare sight of pigs swimming in aquamarine waves. This is the perfect destination for enjoying life on the beach, snorkelling around colourful coral, and soaking up those chill Caribbean vibes.

The Southeast Asian destination of Cambodia is warm no matter when you visit, although monsoon season lasts from May to October. In February, however, you should enjoy a rain-free holiday, with temperatures ranging from 23.5C to 33C. The capital of Phnom Penh is the place to go for those looking to delve deeper into Cambodia’s recent history involving the Khmer Rouge genocide. However, Siem Reap, in the north of the country, is Cambodia’s most popular destination. That's thanks to the spectacular Angkor ruins which include Angkor Wat: the gargantuan temple featured on the country’s flag. Then there’s the beachy south coast where sunseekers flock to Kampot and Kep to soak up the rays.
Cayman Islands

Cayman Islands

One of the hottest February destinations on our list, the luxurious Cayman Islands boast highs of 29C throughout the second month of the year. What’s more, the lows are still comfortable, at 22C. Visitors to this stunning destination should largely avoid any rain too, with just three days of precipitation on average across the month. Highlights of this swanky holiday spot include the spectacular Cayman Crystal Caves, the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, and the Cayman Turtle Centre. Fancy a spot of sunbathing with a cocktail in hand? You can’t go wrong with the Seven Mile Beach: a coral-sand beach perfect for snorkelling and lined with restaurants and bars.

Visitors to the safari capital of Tanzania will enjoy an average daytime temperature of 29C throughout February – so you won’t be needing your thermals on this trip. February falls within Tanzania’s short dry season, which makes it a fantastic time to visit. In the longer dry season, from late June to October, there can be overcrowding at certain reserves, so by visiting in February, you’ll avoid the tourist hordes. Most travellers visiting Tanzania spend much of their time on safari in the famous Serengeti National Park. Here, you’re bound to see animals including elephants, hippos, giraffes, wildebeest, buffalo, lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. If you’re lucky you might also catch a glimpse of a leopard. In all the safari excitement, don’t forget to swing by the iconic archipelago of Zanzibar, where you can immerse yourself in the colourful culture of the spice market, and visit attractions including the Old Fort and Hamamni Persian Baths.
Wherever you plan on heading to over the coming months it’s good to know that Citybond Suretravel is committed to providing you with the highest level of protection to ensure you are safe and secure 24 hours a day when away.
