Places perfect for an Easter weekend break

Places perfect for an Easter weekend break Easter is about more than just eating your bodyweight in egg-shaped chocolate products. With a bank holiday bonanza and the kids off school it's also a fantastic opportunity for a mini-break.

Whether you fancy exploring historic buildings, watching live music, keeping the little ones entertained or just kicking back on a beach, cocktail in hand, there are countless options.

But all that choice can be a little overwhelming. Plus with it being a long weekend you don’t want to spend too many of your precious holiday hours getting to your destination either.

With that in mind, the Citybond Suretravel team has pulled together this list of its top five weekend break locations for your consideration.
Bern, Switzerland

Bern, Switzerland

From mid-March to late-May, the population of the Swiss capital is swelled by legions of trilby-and-scarf-wearing ‘hep cats’ as Jazz Festival Bern returns to town. More than 200 individual concerts take place throughout the event, showcasing everyone from world-class international artists to music students from Switzerland and New York. If you're visiting over the Easter weekend, be sure to catch a performance from multi-Grammy-nominated soprano saxophonist Jane Bunnett, who will be making her first ever appearance at the festival in 2019.
Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen, Denmark

The Danish capital is one of Europe's most family-friendly cities. There are fairytales abound in the land of Hans Christian Andersen. Your little ones will love seeing the harbour's iconic Little Mermaid statue and the magical Round Tower, complete with equestrian-themed staircase. Don't miss Tivoli Gardens, the city's very own theme park, home to everything from white-knuckle rollercoasters like The Demon and The Odin Express, to kids' favourites such as The Big Clock (a mini ferris wheel) and the historic Classic Carousel built in 1920. Best of all, Copenhagen's compact size makes it a cinch to navigate with kids in tow, whether on foot or via the Metro.
Albufeira, Portugal

Albufeira, Portugal

Perhaps you'd rather spend the Easter weekend soaking up some sun? If so, look no further than the Portuguese coastal city of Albufeira, which enjoys eight hours of sunshine a day and balmy average high temperatures of 21C in April. The mercury climbs higher throughout the month, so if you're visiting over Easter you'll definitely want to pack your finest beach attire. There are scores of gorgeous beaches in the area, but it's well worth taking a 30-minute drive to unwind at Praia da Marinha, with its towering cliffs, golden sands and clear aquamarine water.
Krakow, Poland

Krakow, Poland

Easter can be an expensive time to travel, with the school holidays prompting a surge in air fares, but it's still possible to get plenty of bang for your buck - particularly in Eastern Europe. We recommend jetting off to Krakow, rated as the cheapest place in Europe for a short break according to a Post Office check. The historic Polish city surpassed competition from Vilnius in Lithuania to top the list, with a weekend away in Krakow costing an average of just £164.80 for two people excluding flights. And it's not just kind on your wallet - there's plenty to see and do too, from the soaring Wawel Castle to Rynek Glowny, the largest medieval city square in Europe.
Nice, France

Nice, France

You'll want to pack as much as possible into your Easter weekend itinerary, but nothing eats into your hard-earned holiday time more than a long, slow airport transfer. That's not a problem in Nice, where the journey from Nice Côte d’Azur airport clocks in at just five minutes - the shortest transfer in Europe, according to GoEuro. Once there you can enjoy a relaxing stroll along the sun-drenched Promenade des Anglais, stopping off for a frosty beer or two along the way, and then take in the breathtaking panoramic views from the hilltop public gardens.
Wherever you plan on heading to this year it’s good to know that Citybond Suretravel is committed to providing you with the highest level of protection to ensure you are safe and secure 24 hours a day when away.
